Did Your Cat Turned Needy?

Did Your Cat Turned Needy?

Of all their endearing qualities, it’s their independence that causes us to fall in love with cats. As a group, they don't need humans as much as other pets might (yeah we're looking at you dogs). But what happens when an otherwise unfettered cat suddenly starts following around and begging for attention? A needy feline may not necessarily set off every alarm but any swift changes should be treated seriously because something's amiss.

CAT'S INDEPENDENCE
If a cat is acting strange and you're not sure why, it might be worth calling your vet or going in to the office. Cats that don't feel well often hide but can also attach themselves to your side. When your kitty follows you around unexpectedly, we recommend giving your vet a call!

BOREDOM
Some cats spend most of the day alone and wake up when their owners get home from work. This may be obvious in a couple ways: they might jump around, meow incessantly, or display other needy cat behavior to grab your attention.

WHAT TO DO?
A needy cat's meowing can result in treats, attention or both. You want to shower your cat with love and affection but if you go too far when they demand it, the clingy behavior may be reinforced. Teach them how to behave by giving a signal such as stomping of foot only petting or treat time will stop their demands. When they are being demanding give some sort of sign that he/she is not getting what they wanted this way negative reinforcement won't occur.

FOR NEW CATS
New cats can be clingy and need a lot of time to adjust. After a little while, they will feel right at home if you give them some encouragement! Please let us know if your cat is having trouble adjusting; we’re always happy to help with solutions for stress-free homes. Your new pet may also have medical issues that require assistance from experts in the field.

MAYBE IT'S THEIR PERSONALITY
Some cats can meow as a way to communicate. If you feel like your cat is doing this and it's not related to pain, injury or illness we encourage you schedule an appointment with your very today!
